This blog was created in Digital Arts 2, but I wanted to keep writing, so I changed it back into what it was ment to be, aka a blog page. This is the first time I've had a blog so we'll see how it goes. As long as I remember I have a blog now, and have time to go on it, I will post as much as I feel comfortable sharing. I am __________ Despain, and this is my story.

May 28 or 29 2013
Third week being sick. I'm getting antsy, and I don't want to miss any more school- with a few weeks left till summer, I can't afford to. I think I have it backwards: instead of getting better, then going to school, I keep trying to go to school, then get better. It's not just me being sick right now, that's how I've always been when I've had a choice between health and school. I think I'm slightly a
work-a-holic, which is weird, cause I don't have a job.
I just had breakfast and a Tiger's Milk Bar, which is my favorite health bar (I even like it better than candy, that being interesting because I typically love candy). Tiger's Milk Bars are a really good source of energy and nutrition, especially if you're hiking or doing something else that requires a lot of energy, and they are really satisfying-which is also very good if you're hiking, or in a survival situation, or whatever. So I looked at the label for ingredients, and I found it funny and weird that the first ingredient in a health bar is high fructose corn syrup, and the third ingredient is corn syrup. "Well, so much for being healthy."

May 28, 2013- Minimum Wage
While working on an argumentative writing piece about minimum wage for school, I came across a comment which, in my opinion, made sense. This is the comment:
"
"

Cody Farias · Skagit Valley College
As an employer of many minimum wage employees, and someone who has worked minimum wage before, it simply does NOT make sense to raise minimum wage.
1) As stated, if we increase min. wage, we MUST increase cost, because our profit margins severely decrease IN EVERY ASPECT.
2) As stated by many, you are not intended to LIVE off of minimum wage. The ability to LIVE off of minimum wage does a few things; It promotes a general lack of productivity. WHY IN THE WORLD would someone work hard if they can support themselves at a minimum wage job? When productivity drops, so do sales, thus hurting the bottom line further. STANDARDS? Nobody will work at a place with higher expectations if they don't have to. ARE YOU KIDDING?
3) Some people deserve to get paid MORE. They work hard, they learn fast, they do everything they can to succeed. W...hat about people that actually like the job? Personally, when I made min. wage it was for a short period of time, then I made $2 more than it. Why? Because they could AFFORD to! $2 above minimum now? NO WAY! I can't afford to reward people for their work and dedication, which leads me to my next point...
4) Productivity is directly correlated to employee morale. If employees feel they will be fairly compensated they WILL work harder. If you take that away you are undermining the opportunity for growth. Retention will become non existent as the possibility of pay without effort increases. If I can't afford to reward people for their efforts they won't want to work for me. This forces me into other rewards that are not wage related, which STILL directly influences the bottom line just not as in your face as wage rewards. It is a band aid NOT a solution.
5) Minimum wage is not intended to put value on a person in general. The value of a worker is incalculable, what is calculable is how much they produce for the company. Stop deciding how much people are WORTH and start paying them based how much they DO!
6) This country's appeal was built on 2 important things; OPTIONS and OPPORTUNITY! Where is the appeal of the "American Dream" if the dream is achievable through a lack of hard work? You take away business owners options and there is no longer opportunity. Becoming a manger of say, a Quick Service restaurant is hardly appealing. Who wants all that responsibility if they aren't going to make a significant wage more?
In conclusion; It really doesn't affect anyone ( Not in the ABSOLUTE literal sense) to not increase it. Example: there is no minimum wage and business owners decide what to pay... Nobody will work somewhere where employees are severely under valued and that business will severely suffer! People will have to be competitive with wages to stay in business. It is the same theory behind telecom and energy deregulation. Really, in general. In order to make it you have to.... be competitive *GASP*. Some people will FOR SURE under pay people, however, I guarantee they won't remain in business long. Everyone does NOT deserve to be paid the same. Not everyone is worth the same to a company. That is a simple fact. Anybody that argues that fact is most likely a free loader and likes things handed to them. The country was built on blood, sweat and tears, however, it is being destroyed by gluttony and laziness. END OF STORY. MAKE PEOPLE WORK HARD. Things WILL prosper.
I want to reward my employees for a job well done. However, I simply can not. May I please have that option back?

You ever do something, that you know you shouldn't do, and you honestly don't know why?? Like you know you've already had too much alcohol, but you still go for another glass, or two...or five. (Not that I have that problem; never had a drop of alcohol in my life- except for, you know, when it's in cough medicine.) Or when you have that bowl of ice cream when you're sick? Or when you do sumthin' you know is stupid just because your friends told you to?
Well for me, that often happens when I'm tired. I am soo dog-tired, but for some reason, I still stay up for another hour or two (sometimes three)! And then I'm even more tired the next day, and can't for the life of me, figure out why I stayed up so late. Which is what I'm doing right now.
Oh there I go coughing again. Well, better turn in for the night.
